AI usage policy
We use AI tools to make bursary information easier to understand. We do not use AI to generate or verify facts.
What AI does on this site
- Extracts structured facts from the official source page or PDF (closing date, eligibility, required documents, application link). This is checked against the actual source and stored separately from the AI prose.
- Writes a plain-English summary of the opportunity, based strictly on the extracted facts.
- Generates an eligibility guidance section ("Can I apply?") based only on what the official source states.
- Creates a preparation checklist and FAQ, derived from the source requirements.
What AI does not do
- AI does not invent facts, guarantees, or eligibility criteria not stated in the source.
- AI output does not replace the official source — we always link to the original and encourage you to read it yourself.
- AI does not verify that you personally qualify — the guidance is general, not advice about your individual application.
- AI does not generate closing dates. Dates come from the official source and are shown exactly as extracted.
How AI content is labelled
Every AI-generated section on our pages carries a clear label: "Plain-English summary — AI help", "Can I apply? — AI help", "Preparation checklist — AI help", or "Common questions — AI help". These labels appear on every page, on every section.
Which AI we use
We use OpenAI's GPT models, accessed via Replit's AI infrastructure. We prompt the model to extract only what is stated in the source, and to flag anything that is ambiguous or not clearly stated.
Caching and version control
AI extraction results are cached by the content hash of the source page and the version of our extraction prompt. If either changes, we re-run the extraction. Our prompts are version-controlled — behaviour changes require a new prompt version.
